The 8 Reasons Why You Should See A Psychologist

These are the eight reasons why you should seriously consider going to a professional.

The psychotherapy is effective to overcome many problems encountered throughout our lives. Despite the fact that there are many studies that support the efficacy of psychological treatment, on many occasions the person who needs help is not aware that they have the problem or avoids facing reality.

The reasons to go to the psychologist

But, how bad do things have to go to know if you really have to go through a psychologist’s consultation? Here are some signs that may indicate that it is time to stop suffering.

1. Nothing you’ve done so far seems to work

Many people feel anxious for months or suffer in the workplace for years, and the situation does not change. Many people constantly live with depressive symptoms and do nothing to change it, something that is known as  learned helplessness. Others, on the other hand, have read thousands of self-help manuals, go for a run every day or go to yoga classes, but their mood remains the same.

It is possible that, in these situations, the problem is deeper, for example: a problem of beliefs. If you do not stop doing things to change your situation but you see that you continue to suffer, it is time to pick up the phone and get in touch with an expert in psychological therapy.

2. Your friends or family are tired of listening

You have three failed relationships, but you do not stop blaming others for your love failures. Friends and family who used to listen to you already prevent you from talking about the same thing every day.

In addition, no matter how much advice they give you, you continue doing exactly the same as the first day, and it does not seem that the situation in which you find yourself is going to change. If you feel identified with this situation, you should seriously consider going through a consultation.

3. You start abusing substances to alleviate negative symptoms

When the going gets tough, it’s easy to switch to substances that will momentarily alleviate symptoms, such as alcohol.

There is also nothing wrong with consuming a drink from time to time, but if the reason for its use has to do with a negative mood, then it is a serious problem. What may seem like a relief at first may be a very serious complication in the future.

4. Your acquaintances are worried about you

The same has been a friend who has asked you if everything was going well or a family member who has told you that they see you changed. People who know you can tell if you’re having a bad time in your life.

If you are receiving this type of feedback , it is better that you begin to reflect on what is happening in your life.

5. You don’t stop thinking about the negative

Everything that happens to you in life has a negative tinge. The catastrophic thoughts are your first reaction to everything that happens and it is difficult for you to live day to day, since you do not feel like doing anything.

It is normal to go through a period of grief when you end a relationship, lose a job, or fail to get into the college you want. If this state of mind persists for many months, you should make a change as soon as possible.

6. You feel an aggressiveness that you cannot control and you think that the whole world is against you

If you are at war with everyone and this is affecting your relationships, there may be an underlying problem that makes you feel this way. The  outbursts may be increasing and this could be dangerous.

The sooner you go to the psychologist to solve what is causing you discomfort, the less damage you will do to the people around you.

7. You have great difficulty sleeping

If you have great difficulties to rest, disconnect from situations or  fall asleep, and this is affecting your daily life and your work, you should go to a specialist to solve it and return to normality.

Getting adequate rest is the basis for you to enjoy the day.

8. You don’t enjoy things the same as before and nothing motivates you

It may be that, in the past, you did activities that gave you a feeling of well-being, but now those same activities do not give you a pleasant feeling.

If you add to that that there is nothing that motivates you in life, you may need help to get back to enjoying your day to day life. If the problem persists for a long time, this may be a sign of depression. But do not be alarmed, and take action in time.
